Bruce is a Singapore Registered Patent Attorney, Australian and New Zealand Registered Patent Attorney. A Singapore-based patent attorney, Bruce has drafted and prosecuted local and foreign patent applications relating to molecular and cell biology, such as stem cells, antibodies, fusion proteins, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, transgenic plants, medical diagnostics, and is one of the few to file and prosecute an application for plant variety protection in Singapore. Bruce provides advice in relation to patentability and patent infringement. He has experience in IP due diligence and contentious matters including patent opposition proceedings (in Australia).
Bruce holds a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Microbiology, from Monash University and a PhD in the field of neuroscience from the University of Sydney. Bruce spent 10 years in postdoctoral research; at the University of Melbourne characterising neuronal cell adhesion molecules and at The Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, testing the effects of cytokines in animal models of peripheral nerve injury and repair.
Bruce entered the patent profession in 2001, and practised with a leading Australian firm before moving to Singapore in 2014 to join Marks & Clerk.
