Navigating Plant Variety Rights with Marks & Clerk
Plant variety rights (PVRs) are a form of intellectual property (IP) that protect new and distinct varieties of plants. Such varieties may have, for example, higher yields, greater adaptability to climate change, a distinct appearance, improved resistance to pests or better oenological qualities – to name but a few. Whatever the characteristic, provided that the plant variety is new, distinct, uniform and stable, it can be protected with a PVR. While PVRs are often overlooked, they are a critical part of any IP toolshed to protect your innovations in agriculture and horticulture.
