Datasets about potential logos released

Hi all! As part of our current work with the logo detection tool, we have conducted an analysis over 22 days of recent file uploads (August-September 2024) and identified 1,594 images as potential logos using the developed logo detection model.

We have released two datasets: one with all identified logos - fields are image title, confidence score, URL, uploader, whether the uploader is a bot - and another one with an additional field that tells if the image is tagged as “own work” or “not own work”. Note that the latter contains 180 less files than the former, because in the meantime those files were deleted. We consider this as a positive signal, in line with the main goal of facilitating content moderation.

We thought these datasets would be of interest to you, especially in terms of patrolling recent uploads. We also wanted to point out that, according to our statistics, our experimental tool can detect ~47% more files that are not correctly categorized as logos or are not correctly pointed out as such.

We can also expand this dataset to include one more full month of data (i.e. July 2024), as well as exporting those datasets regularly on a monthly basis.

Hope this could be of help for your moderation work and more specifically identification of problematic/copyrighted logos. If you need more info, feel free to ping me. Thanks in advance! Sannita (WMF) (talk) 18:03, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sannita (WMF), can you add their deletion status and relevant info? (who tagged, who deleted, DR or CSD, etc) All the Best -- Chuck Talk 18:07, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alachuckthebuck I'll ask the dev who did the dataset, and will let you know if we can integrate the dataset. Now it's already weekend, so if it will be possible, it will happen early next week. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 18:12, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! All the Best -- Chuck Talk 18:13, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a way to detect how likely a logo is to be above the threshold of originality? Trade (talk) 21:35, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sannita (WMF) any updates? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 03:49, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was looking through the csv file earlier and it's interesting, but kind of unintuitive. @Enhancing999: Do you think it would be possible to turn the CVS file into an autogenerated page with a table or something like you did with the list of uncategorized categories? --Adamant1 (talk) 07:26, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Trade, I agree that the threshold of originality would be useful to distinguish potential copyright violations. The current logo detection doesn't take into account that dimension, as it's a slightly different task. Are you aware of any relevant Commons category/template/metadata that would enable the encoding of such distinction? That would be important to let a classifier learn it. Thanks! MFossati (WMF) (talk) 09:57, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, not really. I would be surprised if there were no AI that could determine the complexity of an image Trade (talk) 16:41, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Alachuckthebuck, I think that's doable, it'll take some work to generate that. Please stay tuned! MFossati (WMF) (talk) 09:48, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi everyone, we've just published two additional datasets:
Additional fields extracted from a file page's wikitext:
  • category - a category with at least one logo occurrence, or Template:PD-textlogo, if any
  • deletion_request - a template indicating regular/speedy deletion requests, if any. For instance, a delete value maps to Template:Delete. Values for speedy deletions are as in [1]
MFossati (WMF) (talk) 17:35, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MFossati (WMF) Thanks so much for doing this, But according to the csv, not a single image on there was tagged with a speedy template. and about 25 were in a DR. Is that correct? For the images that did get deleted, would it be possible to get the tagging user and the deleting admin? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 01:03, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alachuckthebuck: sure! Here are all counts:
Re: deletion requests - yes, looks like all of them contain Template:Delete, so no speedy ones apparently.
Re: deleted images - sure thing, I'll post here when done. MFossati (WMF) (talk) 10:45, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alachuckthebuck: here you are: https://analytics.wikimedia.org/published/datasets/one-off/gogologo/22_days_of_gogologo_deleted.csv.
Fields are:
  • url - the deleted page URL
  • deleters - users who deleted the page
  • reasons - reasons why the page was deleted
  • links - wikilinks found in the deleted page
  • taggers - users who tagged the page for deletion. Note that they're only available for regular deletion requests, i.e., those with a dedicated page
Deleted pages of [2] are just 4, so let me post them below:
Hope this helps! MFossati (WMF) (talk) 15:58, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! One final request, Can you add the confidence score of gogologo to that CSV? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:00, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alachuckthebuck: I've merged [3] into [4], which has now the following fields:
url, confidence_score, uploader, is_bot, deleters, taggers, reasons, links
Please note that the distribution of confidence scores might change in the future, as we refine the underlying model (e.g., by adding threshold of originality features). MFossati (WMF) (talk) 13:06, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Old account, please put the old account template

I had an old account (User:Copperwidth) that I owned, and I was trying to put the Old account template, (Template:Alternative user) but the Abuse filter suggested that I would log in to my old account. I had forgotten the password for that account since 2 years. I was trying to prove that the account wasn't used for sockpuppetry. Your help would be grateful.

File overwriting by User:Alanruiz45

Alanruiz45 (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information) User is overwriting own uploads with Copyvios from the internet. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:58, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Alachuckthebuck I don't see the issue. The user made 2 contributions after a long absence - neither of which appear to be copyvio. What am I missing? Gbawden (talk) 05:54, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please look at deleted cont ribs, and what they were overwriting. they were overwriting images with Copyvios from the internet. I don't know why. Give me a ping if you still have questions. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:25, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like they are making some rather bad rename requests to. Like requesting File:Alan Ruiz Jimenez & mi bebe hermoso Alejandro.jpg be renamed to File:Regional mexico.jpg. The first one isn't great, but the second is way to ambagious. --Adamant1 (talk) 16:38, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if the user is trying to exercise their right to vanish, based on how these appear to be personal photos. @Bedivere, Can you talk to the user? My Spanish isn't good enough to handle this All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:42, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Considering some of these seem like personal pictures, and are unused, they may well be deleted, but not without a nomination. Bedivere (talk) 23:29, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another old account

Still, I recently discovered another old account of mine (User:TwentytwoAug). Please put the alt account template on the account. The reason why I made other accounts is that either that I just forgot the password, or that forgot the other accounts existence. Just also here to prove that I am not using these accounts for sockpuppetry, I was just young when I made the account. Sorry if I'm bothering you. :P StillOrange (talk) 14:31, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reason you can't put the template on the account? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:44, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Audio file update

I have made updates to the digital renderings (meaning I corrected transcription mistakes) for the following two files:

- File:Božidar Kantušer 1st string quartet - 1st mvt.wav

- File:Božidar Kantušer 1st string quartet - 2nd mvt.wav

and I cannot overwrite these files.

@admins, would you please tell me how to proceed.

Do you delete the files, and I next upload the new ones? Or should I upload the new files and then you delete the old ones?

Turboton (talk) 15:53, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In order to overwrite files, you need the "autopatrolled" user right. Upload the new files, and either keep the old ones, or delete them as dupes, depending on the amount of change between the files. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:45, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads by Salh Alheib Klel

Hi all,

I'm not sure what to think about the uploads of Salh Alheib Klel. All are unused and most of them seems to be around a unknown micro-nation in Antarctica (no result on Google except on Wikimedia project) and two seems auto-promotion. The first have been used for vandalism and reverted. I'm guessing we should delete them and maybe block the account (maybe also a CU?), what do you think?
